Your bedroom probably isn't as old as it looks - take extra years off of it, courtesy of the always-opinionated teenager.
Celia Barrett of Celia Barrett Design, LLC in Jackson, Miss., suggests using patent leather accessories, nickel finishes and shiny surfaces to give a room a younger look. "I would choose a modern art painting and make a feature wall. I would bring [in] younger patterns and colors. If you're in an environment that makes you feel good," she explains, you're in the right place.
1. Add pillows to the bed.
2. Move it - your furniture isn't nailed down. Change things around for a better arrangement, or just for the fun of it.
3. Use color accents. Accessories create bright spots in neutral rooms.
4. Display your favorite toy or gadget.
5. Paint furniture.
6. Introduce dazzling patterns in rugs.
7. Get rid of furnishings you hate.
8. Bargain shop. You can unearth gems from your neighbor's garage sale.
9. Shop ethnic stores for reasonably priced accessories.
10. Live in your space; don't preserve it for posterity.
