As winter creeps onward, it gets harder and harder to get up in the morning and leave the warmth of your bed.
Well, here are four ways to make it even harder! Make your bedroom festive for the winter season; give yourself new life by making some changes around the bedroom to revive your soul.
"It changes the mood of the room and it livens the spirit when you make something new," says Barbara Slavkin, president of June Roesslein Interiors in Chesterfield, Mo. So pull out the winter throw pillows, Afghans, quilts and even consider a new paint job to get your bedrooms ready for winter's chill.
1) Change the Comforter
Having a heavier comforter and flannel sheets can insulate the bed and keep you warm while sleeping. "Throw on a comforter or Afghan with richer, winter colors. You don't need to go out and buy new things. They can just be things that you have around the house," says Alicia Valair, principal of New Orleans-based Lifestyle Design.
2) Swap out Seasonal Details
"Change out the pillows on the bed that may be summer-like, and bring out colors that reflect fall," says Slavkin.
3) Insulate the Drapes
Add a layer of drapery or change the color scheme of the windows to help keep the entire bedroom warmer. "The first thing I can think of when you are looking at color scheme is that you might want to change the drapes," says Valair. "You can even purchase drapes that have a liner to add an extra layer of insulation."
4) Consider More Color
"Just because we are going into colder weather doesn't mean we need to get down about darker days," says Slavkin.
"You can keep the walls white and add accent, brighter colors. It is a known psychological fact that color dictates mood. We don't have a choice about that, so when you are picking a color, take that into consideration."
