Stone
Stone is gaining popularity because of its natural mellowness. In the bedroom, stone tile offers sophistication and calm. And it's easy to clean and maintain. You can choose from natural stones such as marble, granite and limestone, or stone chips. Places like Lewis Floor & Home have felt a rise in demand for stone and porcelain. The Northbrook, Ill., shop says that browns are being used with green, blues, creams and whites. Golden, honey tone tiles are also popular with consumers.
Leather tile
Leather flooring is a soft, warm, easy-to-care-for bedroom flooring option that beautifies with time. Though still more expensive than traditional hard wood, it's just as resilient. Washington, D.C.-based EcoDomo even offers recycled leather tiles made from all natural, renewable products. The tiles, like regular leather tiles, will develop a warm, rich patina over time.
Cork and bamboo
Softer than traditional wood floors, cork works very beautifully in the bedroom. It's known for how well it retains warmth and for its natural sound absorbing qualities that make it very quiet. And because cork floors are made from a renewable resource, it's considered environmentally friendly. Cork trees are not cut down to make the flooring. A similar product is bamboo, grown from sprouts.
Laminate
Laminate floors nowadays offer tremendous color and style. Though they're not as quiet as other options, they're easy to clean and they don't stain or dent. They're a good choice in children's bedrooms. Laminates are also easy to install. Manufacturers such as Temple, Texas-based Wilsonart Flooring sell a laminate collection featuring exotic woods from Asia, Africa and South America. And the company can also use personal illustrations to design a unique laminate for the bedroom.
